Baptismal Font, Church of Santa María de las Candelas
Most of the church of Nuestra Señora de las Candelas in Calahorra de Boedo was rebuilt in the early modern period, but an elaborately sculpted Romanesque baptismal font remains. The font is sculpted with the common scene of Three Maries at the Tomb and the slightly less often represented Harrowing of Hell, Christ's journey into the depths of hell to save souls from limbo. There is also a demon and a serpent. The style is relatively naturalistic and has been compared to that of the facade of Santiago de Carrión and some of the capitals from Santa María la Real in Aguilar de Campoo (García Guinea, 1961).
